Author Mary Loudon on the essence of creativity: passion, connection, restlessness, tedium & adventure.

Mary Loudon is the bestselling author of five books of non-fiction and fiction, published in the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, South Africa, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Portugal and Norway. She has also contributed essays and poetry to six anthologies. A well-liked and experienced public speaker, Mary has chaired and taken part in many public discussions, and has made over 200 radio and TV appearances. She has been a judge for the Whitbread Prize & Costa Book Awards. Mary has won four writer’s prizes, as well as being short-listed for MIND Book of the Year and long-listed for Richard & Judy Book of The Year. Her recent novel, My House Is Falling Down, is being adapted for stage in 2022.

In 2021, Mary produced a UK tour of a new play, In The Sea There Are Crocodiles, adapted from the book of the same name by Fabio Geda.  In the Sea There Are Crocodiles is an Afghan child’s epic true story of hope and survival, and the producer, playwright, director and actors all worked gratis to make it happen. The production, which played to four sell-out houses from the Oxford Playhouse to the National Theatre of Wales(Wales Millennium Centre) raised nearly £17K for the charity Young Roots, which supports unaccompanied child migrants arriving in the UK.
