Earth Emotions: NEJS Climate Change Exhibition

Call for Submissions

Defining Earth Emotions: human emotional response to the scale and pace of environmental and ecological change such as eco-anxiety, hope, solastalgia, earth rage …

As part of the 150th Anniversary Open Programme, the Newnham Environmental Justice Society are producing an Earth Emotions Exhibition both online and in person. And they need you!

The exhibition will feature a series of personal, ecological storytelling pieces that explore your Earth Emotions. Anyone affiliated with the Newnham community is welcome to submit a piece (alumnae, JCR, MCR, SCR and staff members). There will be an online exhibition over the coming months and your submission may be selected for an in-person exhibition at the Festival of Arts, Science & Ideas taking place on 2 & 3 July 2022.

What NEJS is looking for:

“We’re really open to any interpretation of our brief. It could be a painting, textile, visual story, videos, music, poetry, a graph which speaks to you, drawing, sculpture etc.

Some questions to get you thinking:

  • Over the last 150 years what have we learnt about sustainability and how might this shape the future of Newnham? How does nature at Newnham intertwine with your life?
  • How has non-human nature nurtured your belief systems and spirituality?
  • How do you envision human co-existence with the non-human world?
  • When you think about the future of the planet, which Earth Emotions are evoked in you? What shapes and forms do these take?

If you are interested in taking part in Earth Emotions, please fill in the form here describing your idea by the end of November 2021. The final submissions should be completed by January 2022. NEJS will email you later with more details, and is happy to support you in any way. You can email them at newnhamenvironmentaljustice@gmail.com.
