Virtual Associates and Students Career Workshop: Navigating your Career – How to Get Started

This workshop is for you if you are a current Newnham undergraduate or graduate student and you’re not yet sure about what you want to do at the end of your studies, or if you have some ideas but feel daunted by taking the next steps.

The workshop will cover:

Where am I now? Reflecting on your situation and your interests, values and strengths

Where do I want to be? Identifying and finding out about possible work options; who to talk to; what employers are looking for; and stepping-stones towards possible goals

What can I do now? Developing yourself and gaining relevant experiences while you are studying; what skills you can be working on right now; getting work experience; how you will articulate what you have to offer

How do I help myself cope with the challenge of career planning? How to fit career planning and job search into your busy life with minimum stress

This workshop complements other recent Associate Career Workshops which have focussed on specific sectors or occupations. Here we are dealing with your career planning, decision-making and job getting as a process or integrated set of activities. The workshop will help you think about choices and actions using practical exercises. You will do some of this work at the workshop and can continue it afterwards. You will also have the opportunity in the workshop to share your concerns and ideas in small group conversations.

As part of participating in this workshop you will be expected to have a follow up conversation with one of the facilitators, either one-to-one or in a very small group of students from the same workshop.

The workshop will be limited to 24 students to support facilitated small group activities and personalised follow up. It is therefore essential that anyone booking commits to attending and to doing the practical work.

This event will be taking place online and will be facilitated on Zoom. To take part you will require a free Zoom account, which can be set up on the Zoom website.
