Wicked Problems in a Complex World: The Great Green Wall – Filming on the frontiers of Climate Change

The second instalment in our ‘Wicked Problems in a Complex World’ series will see former BBC World News director and now documentary producer, Sian Kevill (NC 1979), tackling the ‘Wicked Problem’ of climate change.

Sian will talk about her work as a documentarian and the climate projects that she has been involved with. In particular, The Great Green Wall – an ambitious African-led project that aims to grow an 8,000km ‘wall’ of trees stretching across the entire continent of Africa to fight back against climate change, severe resource scarcity, increased conflict and mass migration.

One of the aims of Newnham’s 150th Anniversary is to tackle big topics, and sustainability and climate change is one of them. Our Global Tree Project seeks to plant 150+ trees around the world, and Sian Kevill’s discussion about climate change and The Great Green Wall project will educate, facilitate discussion and inspire us all. There will also be time for a Q&A at the end of the event.

This event will take place by Zoom, at 18:00 GMT, Monday 1 March 2021.
